I handle administrative complaints from citizens against police officers or procedures in accordance with the Belgian circular CP3, anticipating the effect and impact of signals on public opinion and internal satisfaction within our police organization.
My role in handling complaints is not so much repressive, but rather preventive and empathetic. It mainly concerns PR, emotion management and adjusting expectations. I am learning a lot from my intense contacts with citizens on topics such as digital illiteracy and lack of access to digital media, freedom of expression, the deadlock of opposite accounts, and the dilemma of letter versus spirit of the law.
